ISA Certified Arborist in Portland
To provide you with the highest quality of service, we have several employees who have earned the ISA Certified Arborist credential. In addition to having been trained and knowledgeable in all aspects of arboriculture, they must adhere to a stringent Code of Ethics that strengthens the credibility of the workforce in the tree industry.
In order to be eligible for the exam, they have met one or both of the following:
- 3 or more years of full-time, eligible, practical work experience in arboriculture
- Degree in the field of arboriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture, or forestry from a regionally accredited educational institute.
Ongoing education is a priority of all our employees as we strive to deliver the highest quality of tree, shrub, and plant health care throughout Portland, Salem, and SW Washington.

ISA BOARD CERTIFIED MASTER ARBORIST
This is the highest level of certification offered by the ISA and recognizes those arborists who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.
In addition to passing an extensive scenario-based exam, they must abide by a Code of Ethics to ensure their quality of work. Less than two percent of all ISA Certified Arborists currently hold this certification.
TREE RISK ASSESSMENT QUALIFICATION
Several General Tree Service arborists have a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification or TRAQ. Through education and training, arborists learn strategies that include a standardized and systematic process for identifying and assessing tree risk.
We also provide information to tree owners so they can make educated and informed decisions concerning the safety of their family and property while considering the tree’s health and longevity.

The Importance of Having a Certified Arborist on the Job
It only seems right to have a certified professional work on the things that mean the most to you, including your trees. Certified arborists provide services that ensure the health and safety of all the trees on your property. They also ensure that the landscaping is beautiful and healthy as well, which leads to a higher property value on your home in the end.
Common reasons to have a certified arborist around include:
- They are insured if something goes wrong
- They are trained professionals in the field of trees
- They can answer all of your questions
- They ensure the health of the trees in your yard
- They clean up after themselves when they’re done
How to Know When It’s Time to Call
When it comes to the trees in your yard, you can never be too careful. It might seem like an easy task, but trees are heavy creatures that aren’t as easy to maneuver as you might think. That is why it is always highly encouraged to have a certified arborist from General Tree Service around.
It doesn’t matter how small the issue might seem at first. If you notice the trees in your yard suffering from an injury or growth problems, do not hesitate to call. There are a few other red flags to watch out for as well.
If your trees experience any number of these symptoms, it is time to call in a certified arborist to come and take a look:
- Damaged bark
- Damaged trunk
- Broken branches
- The tree is leaning
- There are mushrooms around the base
Not only that but if the trees in your yard haven’t been serviced in a while, it is encouraged you have them looked at by a professional. Even if there is seemingly nothing wrong with the tree, a professional might be able to see something the average person can’t.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
The three young men who came and took down a huge fir tree without doing any damage to my bushes/plants are on my list of favorites! They did an exceptional job with clean-up as well! This crew will be our first to call for any other tree service we may have in the future.
